I grew up in Berkeley and live in New York now,
splitting time between Brooklyn and Tivoli in the Hudson Valley. for the
last two years I've been playing in clubs around the northeast and
writing my upcoming album, Bay to Maples. it's hard to call anywhere but
Berkeley home because everywhere else I've been has felt like time spent
away from home...
still, I've become attached to a bunch of different places in my twenty eight years. Bologna's radical red rooftops and golden porticos kept me dry for two and introduced me to Fabrizio de Andre and Francesco Guccini. during college, both at Davis and away from Davis, I learned to speak other people's languages and practiced relating to them through music, eye contact and honesty. Tivoli has been quiet and spatious enough for me to write my best material in years and the good people at Bard College where I spend my days have been true to their enlightened reputation.
when I write lyrics sometimes they're in english, sometimes italian, and recently spanish. for the last couple years since moving to the east coast I've been performing solo so I've spent a lot of time concentrating on my guitar playing, messing with different tunings and tempos. lately I've been listening to Silvio Rodriguez, Bad Religion, John Butler, Kate Wolf, Michael Franti, Radiohead, The Wood Brothers, Schubert, Mozart, Beethoven, Thelonious Monk and all are effecting my writing in one way or other.
my album Bay to Maples is in the works, all written and partially recorded. I'm taking a patient approach to this album, setting the songs aside when I have the right recording and continuing to work on the others until they're ready to lay down. my first album, self-titled, is available on request.
